About: Prosper is a peer-to-peer lending community of roughly 2 million members, where users can invest in and request personal loans priced between $2,000 and $35,000.

A handful of the traditional banks that may have once be considered Prosper competitors participated in a $165 million funding round last April, including the investment arm of Credit Suisse CS 0.83% , JPMorgan Chase JPM 1.55% , and SunTrust STI 1.05% . The company’s biggest peer-to-peer competitor, Lending Club LC 1.57% , went public last year in an offering that exceeded expectations.
