Describing unacceptable, inappropriate behavior that is outside usual social standards. (NOTE: “pale” refers to a land boundary such as a frontier zone)

EXAMPLE: Frequently shouting at subordinates for minor mistakes is considered rude and unprofessional in our company, but throwing a chair at someone is clearly beyond the pale.
